einkreader's source code is public. The app is built in the open, and technically-minded readers can inspect it, build it themselves, or contribute:

What that means in practice

The full app source is on GitHub, including the reading engine, the sync pipeline and the sharing features.
Signed APKs of every release are published on the releases page — the self-built channel for people who prefer sideloading.
Your data never depends on us either way: everything the app stores is plain Markdown on your device.

Reading is free and fully local. The optional plugins (email-to-feed, Twitter cross-posting) run on our servers.
